MOTHER OF THE MAID. MTC
“Scott Coopwood is all us fathers, angry but helpless, stung to the heart but unable to make his child understand her inevitable fall. His soliloquy, as he watches his daughter being burnt at the stake, will break your heart and pour hot oil over it.”
“ As Joan's father, Scott Coopwood is appropriately gruff—until he delivers a touching monologue at the play's end that will take the pieces of your heart Fracher has broken and try to sew them back together for you.”
SOVEREIGNTY. Mary Kathryn Nagle. MTC. Jasson Minidakis Directing.
“Scott Coopwood, in a variety of ensemble roles, gives a master class in maintaining ruthless clarity of attention and constantly looking for fuel and spark in what his scene partners offer him — an attentiveness to the unpredictable present that makes theater feel uncommonly alive.”
“Scott Coopwood rounds out this excellent cast as a racist Georgia soldier, a racist drunk bar patron and a bartender who supports his Native American casino bosses. “
ARCHDUKE By Rajiv Joseph, Directed by Giovanna Sardelli at THEATREWORKS SV.
Coopwood is superb as Dragutin “Apis” Dimitrijevic, the mastermind of the operation. Intense, eloquent and obsessive, he briefs the others as if giving a lecture, frequently quizzing them along the way. His mounting frustration is hilarious as he exasperatedly carries on with his lecture despite frequent interruptions of inane questions from the trio and the hilariously surly cook (Luisa Sermol) insisting on serving dessert.
Dragutin “Apis” Dimitrijevic (the archly inventive Scott Coopwood), a Serbian nationalist who’s recruiting them for a mission. In a masterful set piece of comic timing and droll reactions Coopwood and his inscrutable housekeeper cook, Sladjana, (the excellent Luisa Sermon) give a history lesson in Serbian grievances culminating in the explanation that the root of their fatal ailments lies with the Archduke they must eliminate.
